The Paumann Institute for Creative Musical Heritage (PICMH) aims to give reference points for the highest expression of human culture in every aspect of art it represents.
With the increasing loss of tradition in the orignal meaning, the extinction of musical cultures has accelerated. One of the main purposes of the PICMH will be do document the human resources still alive and gather as much of their invaluable knowledge as possible in the form of interviews, videos, recordings, publications.
In times where arts, crafts and education are increasingly influenced by the consequences of digitization in a mainly profit oriented economy, the PICMH wants to be a safe haven for musical arts and crafts threatened by oblivion and ignorance. Hence it is inherently humanistic: the artist is its irreplaceable, defining unit of human culture. This represents also the PICMH’s limitations: we can only represent what we are. Therefore, we hope to grow in number as well as in the capacity of conserving, developing, performing and researching the respective fields of arts and crafts PICMH’s members pursue.

The PICMH in its respective fields of expertise will

  • • organize and fund music performances and recordings
  • • conduct and fund research in musicology, music history, organology and instrument making
  • • document and archive music cultures
  • • publish, educate and teach
  • • provide an internet platform for publication

The PICMH is a donor organized non-profit organisation (DONGO) and registered in Germany as a gGmbH (approval pending, link to Memorandum of Association).
